Arts Week at Pickhams

Art workshops, open studio, garden sculpture trail, music event, cakes!

6th – 14th August 10am – 5pm. Open Studio, Garden Sculpture Trail, cake. Free entry. 13th August. Evening Music event in the marquee- tickets in advance. Details to follow.

8th  – 12th August

Art workshops in the marquee or garden. Book your place in advance. 01323 485153.

  • Observational drawing using various drawing media. 10am – 1pm. .
  • Painting in Acrylics or Watercolour. 1.30pm – 4.30pm.

Monday is intended for beginners or those who are rusty!

Tuesday and Wednesday is aimed at those with a little experience or those needing to brush up their skills.

Thursday and Friday will be for those with some experience or those who have completed earlier sessions.

Projects:

15 April Paint or draw the blooming marvellous magnolia in the garden

22nd April LOOSENING UP

Work  in monochrome from a landscape photograph (or from life in the garden if you prefer)  then work from your monochrome to create a quick painting, or an abstract,  maybe try using just 3 complimentary but unusual colours, in whatever medium you like.

29th April UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. Detailed examination and LARGE drawings or paintings of either:

Eyes (such as different animals, people, peacock feather, butterfly wing etc) or Insects / small creatures.

6th May  UP CLOSE – floral. Large, flowing paintings of flowers.

For any class where the weather is good you can choose to work outside on sketches or painting of scenes around the garden instead of the set project.  To book, please use the contact page.

13th May  PASTELS – chalk pastels on coloured mountcard or paper, landscapes, skies or still life (bring your own objects).

20th May  METALLIC – Cars, motorbikes,  anything metallic. Your choice of painting medium, if using acrylic you might like to use metallic paints.

27th May  TRANSPARENT-  Glass, bottles, jugs of water etc. Looking at light and close observation – drawing or painting.

3rd June LANDSCAPES – Loose painting style, concentrating on high contrasts.

10th June SEASCAPES / CLIFFS-  mixed medium, texture. Suggest either acrylic with texture paste or polyfilla, or paper collage with water based paint and pastel.

17th June  PEOPLE / FIGURES-  drawing or painting, your choice of medium, working from photos.

24th June  LANDSCAPES IN THE STYLE OF…. choose and artist and closely examine their style, mediums, brush marks etc and use that style to paint/draw a landscape from a photo.

1st July  FABRIC / CLOTH – still life looking at different fabrics in different mediums.

8th July  FUR AND FEATHERS – pastel, pencil, watercolour or acrylic.

15th July  STILL WATERS – reflections in lakes, woodland streams etc. Your choice of medium.

22nd July  DRAWING – detailed pencil drawings of objects in or retrieved from the gardens.

29th July  INK AND WASH – our choice of subject, working 2 ways: watercolour wash first then ink lines; ink drawing with watercolour fill.


 

 SUMMER WORKSHOPS 2015

DSC_0208_20141030_163I shall be running a series of workshops at Pickhams in August. If the weather is fine, we’ll work in the gardens  and there will be a marquee for inclement weather and for shade. 5th – 9th August PAINTING & DRAWING 

Pickhams, Hayreed Lane, Wilmington
Please book your place at least 7 days in advance. To book, please use the contact page.
Open to all ages* and abilities, tutored half day or one day workshops covering various set media and subjects, bring all your own materials, board/canvases and paint brushes. Bring a picnic lunch if staying all day. Tea/coffee provided – donations to charity.
