This is an image created by one of my students, Catherine. I have been working with Catherine for a couple of years now and at our first meeting was amazed, when asked how she would start a drawing, that she just picked up a pencil and drew a lounging lion from memory. Catherine is an artist who is autistic. In the lessons I have been encouraging Catherine to try different mediums and to create work to a finished standard. On her 21st birthday her family organised an exhibition of Catherine’s work for family and friends and it was wonderful to see the development of her work.

In addition to the blog that this post comes from, CatherinesArtWorld, we have set up another blog called RarelyPainted for her more studied works on animals that are either rarely depicted in art or are close to extinction. Please do have a look.
