Teacher’s perks

Jim and I went to a 21st birthday party at the Cavendish Hotel in March. I tutor the birthday girl and was invited because her father was setting up an exhibition of Catherine’s work for her friends and family to see at the party. I was immensely proud of the work that Catherine, who is autistic, had done. She has a fantastic natural drawing ability  – ask Catherine to draw a lion and she can, without any reference and in any pose or situation – and I am helping her with painting techniques and styles with a view to her being able to make a living from her art. Her family would like to arrange some more exhibitions with other autistic artists to change the way they are perceived – as aRtistic not aUtistic.
